Facebook has rolled out its new scheme where users have to pay up to approximately $16 to message celebrities and others outside their circle of friends, reports The Guardian.
The new scheme was launched in U.K. as a trial, with fees ranging from as much as £10.68 to contact a celebrity such as Olympic swimmer Tom Daley, and about standard 71 pence (100 pence= 1 pound) for the lesser known celebrities who don’t have huge Facebook followers.
Facebook said the fee charged varies according to a number of factors including the number of followers and a secret "fame" algorithm.
The social networking giant has confirmed about its new experiment launched in U.K. and said, "It is being tested among a very small percentage of users. There is no set timescale. It depends on what happens, what feedback we get as to whether it is rolled out nationally. We are testing a number of price points in the UK and other countries to establish the optimal fee that signals importance. This is still a test and these prices are not set in stone."
