For those of you staying in the dark about Whatsapp, it's a cross platform messaging service allowing you to share pics, videos alongwith text messages and much more!!! The service uses a 3G or Wifi connection.
Whatsapp CEO Jan Joum, at All Things D's D: Dive Into Mobile conference in New York, said that the Whatsapp service has more monthly active users than Twitter. Well how much, he didn't reveal that exactly, but he did say that the service sees 8 billion inbound and 12 billion outbound messages per day.
Whatsapp have attract millions of smartphone users but susrprisingly it isn't making much money.
Looking forward to introducing a subscription based model, Joum said that the company is looking at more ways to make more cash from the service. He seemed to think that this will be pretty easy.
Joum also said, "We're looking forward to a world with billions of phones. and once that happens it's going to be extremely easy to monetize. But a lot more people need to join the smartphone revolution and a lot more people need to buy more goods on their phones."
Does that mean Whatsapp will introduce those annoying adverts!!! Well, it doesn't seem so.
Joum made it clear that company have a manifesto opposing advertising and they are proud of that.
Well, they should be, after all we're already being bombarded with adverts in almost all the apps.
Joum said "Our phones are so intimately connected to us, to our lives. Putting advertising on a device like that is a bad idea. You don't want to be interrupted by ads when you're chatting with your loved ones."
